Kynnet kuntoon lomalle

Millainen lomailija olet?

Talven tuiskeesta etelän lämmön hemmoteltavaksi. Tai vaikkapa hiihtomatkalle Alppien puuterilumen peittämille rinteille. Loma, onhan se hieno juttu! Lomalla on kuitenkin yksi huono puoli: Se on aina liian lyhyt!

Kynsinauhaöljyjen käyttäminen, esimerkiksi aprikoosiöljy – jota on saatavilla useilta eri valmistajilta.

_______________________________
🌱Vitamiini A on rasvaliukoinen vitamiini, jolla on kriittinen rooli näkökyvyn, neurologisen toiminnan ja terveellisen ihon ylläpitämisessä. A-vitamiinia saat seuraavista lähteistä: Naudanliha, porkkana, bataatti, kala, pinaatti, aprikoosi, parsakaali, voi, kananmuna, talvikurpitsa.
_______________________________
🌱E-vitamiinia tarvitaan punasolujen muodostumiseen.

Magnesiumilla on keskeinen rooli lähes kaikissa kehon prosesseissa DNA: n synteesistä insuliinin metaboliaan. Tämän tärkeän mineraalin vähäiset tasot ovat jopa sidottuja sellaisten kroonisten sairauksien kuten Alzheimerin, diabeteksen ja sydänsairauksien etenemiseen. On itsestään selvää, ettei ravitseva ruokavaliota voi olla koskaan täydellinen ilman riittävää magnesiumin saantia: Pinaatti, kookospähkinä, tumma suklaa, kurpitsansiemenet, mantelit, mustat pavut, avokadot, jogurtti tai kefiiri, banaani.
_______________________________
🌱 Kalsium on runsain mineraali elimistössä.
_______________________________
🌱Jodia pidetään yhtenä ruumiin elintärkeistä ravintoaineista, joka on vastuussa kilpirauhasen toiminnan säätelystä, terveellisen aineenvaihdunnan ylläpitämisestä, kasvun ja kehityksen tukemisesta sekä tiettyjen kroonisten sairauksien, kuten syövän, ehkäisystä: Merilevä, kuivattu rakkolevä, turska, Raaka maito, munat, tonnikala, limanpapu, maissi, luumu, juusto, vihreä herne, banaani.

Seuraa näitä ohjeita, saat oikeat vitamiinit kynsille ja kauniit käden tuovat sinulle iloa päivittäin.

Taking care of your feet

Taking care of the feet.

First of all we should remember! WE fit the shoe to the foot, not the foot to the shoe. Professionals suggest having your feet measured for width as well as length. Or, if you want to get more creative, stand on a piece of paper and trace around the shape of your foot. Then place your shoe on top — if you can see any foot tracing lines overhanging the shoe then this shoe is too narrow or not the right shape for you. Another tip is going shoe shopping in the afternoon after any natural swelling has occurred.

Then there is the question of heels. It’s said, that high-heeled shoes can lead to an increase in foot pain and the development of painful corns and calluses,  referring to a study of just under 100 women between the age of 40 and 66. However, the study also showed that wearing heels did not seem to lead to any statistically significant increases in deformities or joint disease on x-ray.

However, everybody has a different type of foot.  Whether looking for sports or dress shoes, you need to find what suits you. For example, you can choose a different heel which is more comfortable for the foot. You might have a larger surface area heel with platforms so you’re getting that height but you’re not getting [such an] angle.

If finding the right shoes to support your feet is a struggle, there is always the option of orthotics. These are inserts fitted into the shoe that can help reduce or redistribute pressure in the foot and provide support for correct foot function.

What is becoming quite significant is that off-the-shelf, pre-fabricated orthoses are just as beneficial as custom-made orthoses. There was a study that analysed the effects of a mass market insole. Although it was a small sample, the team found that the use of the insole — which is designed to improve the function of the first metatarsophalangeal joint (the big joint of the big toe) — led to a probable increase in walking efficiency as well as comfort.

BUT! If you wear orthotics or arch supports these will not work properly if your gastrocnemius muscles are tight.  Professionals recommend regular calf stretching.

As well as correct footwear, cleaning and keeping toenails trimmed are important aspects of foot care. Although feet should be cleaned daily, soaking them can destroy the natural oils in the skin and should be avoided. Furthermore, make sure you dry your feet well and pay particular attention to areas between the toes as this can potentially create athlete’s foot.

Foot care can become more difficult as people get older. Reaching down to cut toenails and clean and moisturise feet can be challenging, and this population is more likely to have underlying conditions, such as diabetes or arthritis. Furthermore, people often gain weight as they get older. Usually, family member can help with cutting toenails and, if that is not an option, many of the  local organisations offer toenail-cutting services for people over 50. Taking care of feet is important part of sustaining movability.

And SLIPPERS. Podiatrists are against wearing slippers. “They can become sloppy, are unsupportive, and individuals run the risk of tripping and falling over”.

Another issue for some older people is a reluctance to seek help if they have foot pain. “Older generations were copers, they just got on with it,”.

But, please, let’s stop it!  Foot pain should not be seen as an inevitable part of ageing.

FOOT HEALTH: Strong base for the whole body.

Strong base for the whole body.

The importance of keeping our feet in good working order is becoming more and more popular and important for the bigger amount of people. But still quite a lot should be  to be done to communicate this message – FOOT HEALTH: Strong base for the whole body -to the public.

Healthy feet are vital for mobility. In their lifetime, the average person walks approximately 610,000 km. But all too often, we do not place the same emphasis on looking after our feet as we do on other parts of our body. “Keeping your feet healthy should be part of your daily routine,” says Sarah Curran, principal lecturer in podiatry at Cardiff Metropolitan University. “Just because they are furthest away from your eyes should not mean you neglect them!

Prevention is better than cure. Once trouble sets in, “a painful foot or leg can be totally debilitating,” warns Richard Leigh, head of podiatry at London’s Royal Free Hospital and a specialist in diabetic foot problems. And because our feet are so essential for keeping mobile and independent, when something goes wrong it can be a psychological strain too.

“Loss of mobility can have a major psychological impact on an individual,” says Jim Bolton, a fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatrists who helps people deal with the psychological consequences of physical illness. “[This] may include loss of independence, loss of normal roles such as parenting or employment, and loss of confidence.” Indeed, psychiatric disorders, especially anxiety and depression, are more than twice as common in people with long-term physical illnesses compared with the general population.

Given how much we rely on our feet, perhaps it is unsurprising that, as Curran points out, “many of us at some point in our lives will experience foot problems”. Almost a third of consultations for musculoskeletal problems relate to pain in the foot and ankle!

DIABETES.

Better education about foot care is important, especially for people with specific conditions that can affect the feet.  For example, those, who have diabetes. These people should check their feet and to be warned not to buy over-the-counter corn plasters, “because of the lack of sensation the acid within the plaster can do damage that we won’t be aware of”.

“Diabetes affects the feet in several ways,” says Rachel Berrington, a specialist diabetes nurse based in Leicester. She explains that high sugar levels can damage both sensory and motor nerves (neuropathy) and blood vessels (peripheral arterial disease). This means that not only can people with diabetes be at greater risk of injuring themselves because they are less sensitive to pain, heat and cold, and where their joints are in space, they can also be slower to heal because of a poor blood supply.

Leigh says that not everyone with diabetes suffers from nerve and blood vessel damage. “In those cases it’s a matter of getting their feet checked annually,” he says. But those who do have damage or who have previously suffered from ulceration should be seen in a high-risk clinic and have easy access to specialist foot care. “There should be a pathway in place that says if the patient has a problem, they can get to the hospital multidisciplinary team and that should be within 24 hours.”

He thinks it is worth pharmacists being aware of relative risk in people with diabetes. “They should be asking whether the patient knows their risk stratification,” he suggests.

“Pharmacists, like every healthcare professional, have a role when advising about good foot health for people with diabetes, as they are often the first port of call,” says Berrington. She has some specific suggestions for how people with diabetes should care for their feet. “Checking their feet every day is essential,” she says. She also suggests that people “never walk barefoot to prevent standing on anything that could traumatise the foot”. From a similar perspective, Curran adds that it is important to “always check inside the footwear before putting it on”.

LloydsPharmacy offers a free foot check service, where people with diabetes are advised to have their toenails cut by a podiatrist and to have regular check-up appointments; “almost like how you have a hygienist appointment once every six months,” says Muorah. This is made easier for her patients because there is an integrated podiatry clinic within the pharmacy.

Fall/ Winter 2018-2019 Nail Art Trends

Nail Art Trends 2018-2019

Bejeweled Nails and Fingers

Jeweled nails are nothing new in concept, but the newest iteration of the idea features jewels and crystals of different sizes and shapes being placed collaboratively to accent the nails. In some cases, larger stones are placed alone to create a notably different look worthy of being considered a fall 2018 nail art trend.

Bibhu Mohapatra showed jewels between the first knuckles and the fingernails of the models. It was an interesting look – the jewels used added a bit of “oomph” to the manicured look, but that doesn’t mean that the actual nail art was lacking! The models that wore Bibhu Mohapatra’s looks also had an intentional nearly diagonal swipe of polish with a hint of glitter in rich hues.

Creatures of Comfort showed off larger stones of different sizes and shapes placed individually on nails painted with a background of black. The effect was pretty and the contrast was interesting by itself and even repeated in different colors on the Mulberrymodels.

Just the Tips

Manicures that were really just about decorating the tips were rampant in different designs and even textures. Super long nails with a hole in the tips were on the Gareth Pugh runway.

Pink tips on otherwise naked nails were only the beginning, thanks to fall 2018 nail designs shown on the Roberta Einer model’s nails. Cushnie et Ochs decorated just the tips of the nails with glitter, and Huishan Zhang did the very definition of minimalist with a tiny amount of sparkles at the tip of glossy nails.

Eye-Catching Prints

One of the most talked about fall 2018 nail art designs of the various Fashion Weeks was the neon animal print nails Miss Pop created for Jeremy Scott. One of the “prints” that caught a lot of eyes was the net covered burgundy nails on the Tadashi Shoji runway.

Vivienne Westwood took the eye-catching printed nail trends of fall 2018 and created readable manicures. The different phrases were risqué in some cases but that was the point – done on softly squared tips.

Minimalist Manicure Designs

Similar to French manicures, a minimalist manicure is done with two colors or less and on a shorter nail like the rounded short tips that were very popular on the runways. Cushnie et Ochs opted for nude nails with glitter-speckled tips as the only polish present on softer square-tipped nails.

Tanya Taylor featured two-tone shoes that inspired Essie nail artist Julie Kandalec to create stunning minimalist manicures. Using rich, glossy colors she painted the nails, tipping them off with a miniscule cream-colored tip for a richly colored minimalist manicure. Not only were the richer colors of the upcoming fall season used, but also metallics like silver chrome were tipped with coral.

Accented Nails

Implementing a design on a single nail makes it stand out more, and this is one of the fall/ winter 2018-2019 nail trends for you to embrace. Antonio Marras showed glossy black nails with an accented first finger showing a design of red and gold swirls as an attractive and eye-catching accent.

Michelle Class showed off nude nails accented with multicolored Swarovski crystals on certain nails for Mulberry. For the models for Gypsy Sport, several of the nails were done in alternating colors with the additions of stripes and a harlequin pattern on the first and second nails.

Extravagant Nail Art Designs

Sofia Webster, and The Blonds took the title for most extravagant of the fall 2018 nail art trends. They were still wearable but beautifully embellished in a way that seemed to be created from the imagination of someone with brilliance in mind.

Brilliance in this case is two-fold with the designs being both very clever and glintingly shiny. The jewel-encrusted nails of the Sofia Webster models were intricately designed and meticulously curated to catch the light from every angle and embellish the nails from cuticle to end.

Several different designs came into play on The Blonds runway. Spikes and prints and more embellishments covered the nails, which were a considerable length to accommodate the fullness of the designs.

Manish Arora also featured an incredible design with koi in a Zen pond design on the nail. They could be worn but only to a certain extent. They are, however, beautiful in each of the different designs.

Half Moon Cuticle Manicures

Moschino, and Tibi both showed nail art designs for fall 2018 that featured a natural half moon detail at the cuticle of the nail. On the Tibi runway, the model’s nails were short and the half-moon of the cuticle with a lack of polish, while the rest of the nails were done in a pale pink with an orange red accent color on the ring finger.

Moschino’s nails were medium length, making the half moon design near the cuticle much easier to appreciate. Tom Ford also did the same style on nude nails with a glossy finish.
